It took me two days of painting, but I was able to do three paintings at the Atlanta History Center this particular year (Olmsted Plein Air Invitational 2022). This is one of two paintings that I did of the Swan House, a Renaissance Revival mansion in the Beaux Arts tradition, built in 1920 for the Inmans, who were the affluent heirs to a cotton fortune. The mansion is set in a densely wooded hillside and has been used for filming of two of the Hunger Games movies. While the site placement and development is grand, I felt that the details and relation to the wooded site were both very interesting and less obvious, so I chose to paint two different views of the mansion. This particular painting includes the mansion but is more about the surrounding landscape and the afternoon light that penetrates the forest.
