Mauve, a color that sits between puple and pink on the color wheel; a French word for the spring flower of the same hue that the color was named after, defined a decade of design and fashion wear in the 1890s. The color is associated with femininity and renewal, mauve is also thought to stir feelings of nostalgia and romance. I love hydrangeas and the color of these certainly stirred those feelings in my heart. The sophisticated pallet of this painting with it's varying shades of pink and purple, inspired this still life. What a beter thing than to sit with a cup of tea and dream.
