Literally down-trodden (!) turf, weeds and the mysteries beneath our feet yield extraordinarily complex designs. It was nice to paint something a little messy. Although frustrating in the garden, weeds in particular have my respect. They persevere no matter what is thrown at them. Long may they live. Painted a la prima, this painting was selected in Oil Painters of America's National Exhibition, 2025.
