River Street Award – Capturing the Spirit of Savannah’s Waterfront
Take a stroll down River Street, where the past and present meet along Savannah’s iconic waterfront. With its century-old storefronts, tree-lined parks, and cobblestone paths, River Street offers a sensory experience unlike any other. Watch colossal cargo ships glide by, hop a ferry to Hutchinson Island, explore specialty shops and restaurants, and visit the beloved Waving Girl statue, honoring Florence Martus and her legendary greeting of every passing ship.
This award pays tribute to Savannah’s historic gathering place, a vibrant stretch of riverfront that welcomes visitors from around the world. Set at the base of Yamacraw Bluff, this land was ceded in the 1730s to General James Oglethorpe by Chief Tomochichi, marking the beginning of what would become one of America’s most storied cities.
During Georgia Color, artists will bring River Street to life through their work—capturing the movement, history, and heart that define this essential part of Savannah.
