I painted this during the Top of Georgia paint out in Hiawassee, Georgia, perched on a hillside in a rhododendron garden, beside a shrub in full bloom. It had rained earlier and was still drizzling. Strangely, this made the blooms more luminous. Some of the flower trumpets had been pulled away by the downpour leaving them clinging to the threads of stigmas and stamens. Just a beautiful painting experience.
