This painting was painted at the Turnipseed Nursery Farms in Fayetteville, GA as part of the 2023 Olmsted Plein Air Invitational alongside fellow painters Neal Hughes and John Caggiano. This unique environment had an eclectic collection of gardens, ponds and structures. I was taken with this handcrafted portal made out of driftwood and the accompanying wooden fence. As I painted this interesting man-made structure juxtaposed with the natural trees and pond beyond, all sorts of mysterious stories danced around my head. I hope that this painting allows the viewer to walk through the portal and have their own mysterious imaginings as well!
